Our instructor says that we’ll feel the energy of the person we’re working on, but I didn’t feel anything as I put my hands over Edi. She’s a great person, and the two of us have chatted a bit before and after class. I have a small personal connection to her, but that’s it. I’m not sure how well this class is going to work out, but at least it’ll be a new experience.

Liz smiled as she read over it. Learning new things had often come easily to her, and she’d expected reiki to be the same way. Experience, however, was key.

She shut the notebook and took the most recent one out of the basket instead. This one wasn’t nearly as full. She’d come to understand intuitively whether a session was going well or not, and she didn’t feel the need to keep a regular record of them all. She’d considered moving her journals over to her office space, since that was where all of these incidents occurred, but Liz knew this wasn’t simply a matter of keeping an appointment book or adding to someone’s record. These were her personal reflections.

Grabbing a pen from the coffee table, Liz curled up on the couch and began to write. She felt horrible for what had happened to Tyler. Could she have gone too far? Had she been able to reach further into his aura than she’d intended? Was that possible, and if so, was it just as much of a possibility for shifters as humans? She let her hand guide the pen without giving any real thought to format or punctuation. She just had to get it all out and hope that the exercise would lead her to a way to fix it.

And then what? She flipped to the next page as she continued to write, her cursive going from neat script to angry scribbles. Even if she truly understood what she’d done wrong and knew how to avoid it the next time, how could she possibly make that up to Tyler?

It would be bad enough if he were a client, who could leave her a bad review or refuse to come back for another session, but that was something she could handle. It wasn’t the same at all with Tyler. There was a soft spot in her heart for him, one that she refused to label because it was far too scary. He was a strange man who’d fallen into her life unexpectedly, one who’d shaken her to her very core and then put his hands out to keep her steady. He was stubborn as a mule when he thought he knew better, but she’d also seen the softer side of him. Tyler truly cared about what happened to his family and wanted to keep them safe. He even wanted the same for her and was sacrificing his own time to make sure she was protected, even though he had no real obligation to do so. Then there was the way he’d touched her body, tender yet determined to please her.
